The Story
Made in France/Circa late 80s-early 90s Some garments are documents. This is one of them. I picture Naomi Campbell or Isabella Rossellini in this number during the rise of the supermodel. This belongs in a Bryan Ferry video, while being so wearable RIGHT NOW (and forever after). A black leather sheath dress from Mugler's Paris house -- the blue script label and "Made in France" stamp place it firmly at his architectural peak, when he was redefining the sheathing of a feminine silhouette. Square neckline. Sculptural panel seaming. A perfect back zip that's old school. Jewel-length sleeves. The most buttery leather to the degree that it's hard to believe this beauty was constructed before Clinton was President. The construction is classic (while being of an era) is having a moment right now, and is uncompromising to the max. There's no fast fashion this edgy. This is Rue Trousseau's greatest testament to slow fashion and re-loving superior pieces.
